New Delhi: Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has partnered with Microsoft to launch ‘AI Careers for Women’, a nationwide initiative aimed at equipping young women with future-ready skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As part of the initiative, 30 Centers of Excellence (CoEs) will be set up in women’s colleges across six states. Each CoE will function as a hub institution, extending support to a network of 150 spoke colleges, predominantly located in Tier-II and Tier-III towns, enabling deeper access to quality AI education. The initiative is expected to train 20,000 women, significantly increasing female participation in India’s AI workforce.
AI Careers for Women Program Features
AI Careers for Women program features a comprehensive 240-hour AI curriculum, co-developed by Microsoft in consultation with the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), and aligned with industry requirements. Delivered through a hub-and-spoke model, the curriculum integrates classroom learning with certification, internships, apprenticeships, fellowships, and job placements. It also supports AI-focused entrepreneurship and innovation opportunities, encouraging women to become creators and contributors to India’s digital economy.
Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE, stated, “This initiative reflects our mission to create a future-ready, inclusive workforce by integrating emerging tech like AI into higher education. Embedding the program within NEP-aligned, credit-linked curricula ensures that women are empowered with both academic and industry credentials to drive India’s innovation economy.”
Edunet Foundation, the implementation partner, will coordinate with educational institutions, industry bodies, and government departments to ensure seamless execution and impact. By offering hands-on training with real-world applications, the initiative aims to create a robust talent pipeline of women skilled in AI development and deployment.
Aparna Gupta, Global Delivery Center Leader, Microsoft India, said, “We are proud to collaborate with MSDE to broaden access to AI careers for women. By expanding capacity across institutions in smaller cities, we are enabling more women to thrive in an AI-powered economy and become integral to the workforce of the future.”
